Supporting-Income Generating Activities

Households’ involvement in income-generating activities increases their access to cash resources, which is crucial in improving the purchasing power and abilities to invest in food and health, hence, sustainably strengthening the livelihoods. Therefore, the LANN+ promotes IGAs focused on nutrition-sensitive value chains, such as the value addition of local crops and wild edible plants, safe processing, and preservation of food. Income generation through utilizing natural resources such as small bamboo (Nigalo), collection and selling of WEPs, value-added products such as pickles, sun-dried vegetables, etc. In addition, the LANN approach also promotes the concept of “wise spending” of money on healthy nutritious local foods instead of industrialized commercial products that offer low nutritional value to promote healthy family nutrition.
