NERP Camp: Rehabilitation of Malnourished Children

The nutrition Education and Rehabilitation Program (NERP) focuses on rehabilitating malnourished children using local resources and participation and enabling the family to maintain the nutritional status of their children even after completion of the NERP by promoting behavior changes on various aspects like preparation of nutritious recipes, consumption of wild edible plants, childcare practices, sanitation and hygiene, and other health care practices. Rana Rani Ghale is one of the participants of NERP in Ruby Valley ward no 2. Her 24-month-old daughter, Siya Maya Tamang, was diagnosed with Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) with MUAC 120mm and weight 8.7 kg.
Rana Rani Ghale attended NERP for 15 days with her daughter. Siya’s nutritional status improved from MAM to Normal, MUAC 127 and weight 9 kg, at the end of NERP. Miss Ghale states “I learned to prepare Poshilo Lito using locally available food like soybean, maize, and chickpea. We used to think that my child cannot digest egg and would affect my children, heart. I was wrong and is now providing eggs daily to my daughter.”
