Nutrition Smart Village (NSV)
Regional program for promoting a multisectoral approach for nutrition-smart villages in Bangladesh, Nepal, and India
The objective of the project is to contribute to food and nutrition security (SDG2) among women of reproductive age and young children from vulnerable and food-insecure families in Nepal, Bangladesh, and India. In Nepal, the project is being implemented in Rajgadi Rural Municipality, Saptari, and Paroha Municipality, Rautahat, Madhesh Province. The target group includes women of reproductive age group; children below 5 years and farmers groups. The project aims to reach 13,382 direct households and started in December 2020 and ends in December 2023. The key activities include baseline including village vulnerability assessment, child growth monitoring of 6-59 months, and providing support based on results. The Nutrition Education Rehabilitation Programme (NERP) camp is one of the major approaches the project is promoting to raise awareness and impart knowledge on nutrition friendly to mothers and care takers. In addition, the approaches like PLA LANN+, sustainable intensification farming model, and diversified kitchen gardens are being promoted by the project. Capacity building and knowledge and learning documentation are cross-cutting themes. The project is implemented by Forward Nepal, and is funded by WHH and BMZ.
